Fun promised for Fostering Fortnight

Posted: 04-05-2017

Children and carers are to join in the fun as part of a national two week celebration of fostering this month.

Doncaster Children’s Services Trust fostering team have lined up a packed programme of events for Fostering Fortnight, which runs between Monday 8 May and Sunday 21 May, in the hope of attracting more people to become carers.

The team will be on hand, with some of their Foster Carer Ambassadors, at a stand in the Frenchgate shopping centre, on Tuesday 9 and Tuesday 16 May to answer any questions you may have about opening up your home as a foster carer and to explain the application process.

And there’s the chance to get social too, by joining in on the Trust Fostering Facebook and Twitter pages.

It’s Bertie the Trust Fostering Bear’s birthday during the fortnight and there’s to be a party in the park for him – foster families can check details with the Trust Fostering team.

Plus, there’s another chance to meet the team when they host an information drop-in at the Trust offices, in the Blue Building, 38-40 High Street, Doncaster, on Wednesday May 17, between 4.30 and 6.30pm.

Keep an eye on the recently launched Trust Fostering website as there will be details of events, as well as news and pictures to mark the celebrations.

The Trust’s Head of service for looked after children, Sue May, explained that as well as being a celebration of fostering, the fortnight was also a call for more people to become foster carers with the Trust.

“We have an incredibly dedicated team of carers, who do a fantastic job of opening their homes to provide a safe and comfortable place for Doncaster children and young people who cannot currently live with their parents - but we need more people to join them,” she said.

Chief Executive of the Trust, Paul Moffat, said: “The fortnight is a great opportunity to say a big thank you to all our foster carers who do a fantastic job in making such a positive difference to the lives of our children, young people and families. We would love to welcome more carers to join us. Fostering with the Trust has been described by one carer as “One big fostering family” which is valued and supported 24/7.”
