Developing our own skills through training opportunities has a positive impact on personal development as well as the services offered to children, young people and their families.
We aim to make learning and development a part of our day to day work through regular team meetings, updates on legislation, and sharing best practice across the Trust. We also actively support personal growth and development, and this includes opportunities for new staff members to continue with personal studies for progression throughout the Trust.

These take place each year as well as a mid-year catch up and regular one-to-one sessions with your line manager. These meetings are to discuss your performance and development needs, both for your current job and to help you move on in your career.

Children's Social Work Matters

It’s a simple statement, but one that every single children’s social worker in Yorkshire and the Humber region wholeheartedly believes.
Children’s Social Work Matters is a programme that aims to attract and support social workers in addition to improving social work practice and delivery across the Yorkshire and Humber region. The Trust has come together with local authorities in the region to drive up industry standards and champion the vital role of children’s social work.

Frequently asked questions
Here are some of the frequently asked questions, by our new recruits,
- How will my continuous service in Local Government be affected?
Doncaster Children’s Services Trust is included on the Redundancy Payments Modification Order which means that, for the purposes of calculating your entitlement to Annual Leave, Occupational Sick Pay, the Occupational Maternity Scheme and redundancy pay, your previous continuous service will be preserved. We will ask your current employer for your continuous service date when we ask for a reference and include it in your contract.
- What date of the month will I get paid?
Trust employees are paid on the 15th of each month (or the nearest working day before, if the 15th falls on a weekend or statutory holiday). Payment is for the whole month – so it’s roughly two weeks in advance and two weeks in arrears.
- How much annual leave will I get?
Your annual leave entitlement depends on your salary - between 26 days to 30 days, not including Bank Holidays.
This will increase by 3 days once you have accrued 5 years’ continuous service and then by a further 2 days once you have accrued 10 years’ or more continuous service.
You will get your new annual leave entitlement every year at the start of your birthday month.
- Can I continue to be a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme?
Yes, you will still be able to be a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme. You will automatically be enrolled when you start working for the Trust. South Yorkshire Pension Authority will write to you about your options and you will have 12 months to decide whether you want to link your previous pension benefits to your current membership.
