Festive fun with the X-Factor

Poetry, singing, dancing and even a hula hoop routine were part of the programme of entertainment when young people in care presented X-Mas Factor – their own version of the popular TV talent show.

They were joined on stage by senior leadership staff from the Doncaster Children’s Services Trust at the Ukrainian Club for the third annual event, organised by Sue Wakefield, from the Trust’s Independent Visitors Scheme.

The scheme involves volunteers who befriend and visit children and young people in care who have little or no contact with their parents.

Bikers' Festive Bounty

A bunch of biking enthusiasts proved they had a soft heart by putting the wheels in motion to collect seven sacks full of Christmas presents for disadvantaged children in the town.

Members of the St Leger Chapter of the Harley Davidson Club, who have provided toys for the Children in Care (CIC) Service to distribute for the past four years, presented this year’s haul to Doncaster Children’s Services Trust at the weekend.

And, this year, they pulled an extra act of kindness out of their panniers by helping an eight-year-old boy to wrap up warm for winter.

Santa, Rudolph and the Snowman were just some of the inspirations for children in care who submitted entries to a festive card competition.

Santa flying across the night sky was the winning design which has been turned into the official Christmas card for Doncaster Children’s Services Trust. The card will be sent out to people and organisations that have helped support the Trust to deliver its vital services to children, young people and families in the borough.

Festive fun has been guaranteed for hundreds of disadvantaged children and families, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and residents, who have donated thousands of brand new toys and gifts, as well as food hampers.

Doncaster Children's Services Trust has received the presents and food hampers from local appeals. Trust staff have been busy delivering them to those families and young people who are struggling and would otherwise have no gifts.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better social worker.”
