Young people's successes celebrated in style

A carnival theme provided the colourful back-drop to a ceremony held to mark the many and varied achievements of children and teenagers growing up in care and care leavers.

Nearly 100 young people received certificates at the annual Celebrating Success Awards, held jointly by Doncaster Children’s Services Trust and Doncaster Council.

The young people were awarded in categories which marked achievements in education, sport, creativity and the arts and personal achievement and included many examples of courage, determination and kindness.

Social worker and Trust shortlisted for national award

Doncaster children’s Services Trust is celebrating after one of its social workers has been shortlisted in a national award scheme.

Linzi Nicholson has been shortlisted for Team Leader of the Year as part of the national Social Worker of the Year Awards, which celebrate the very best work delivered by the profession to support vulnerable children and young people. Linzi is among one of six children’s social worker team managers from across the country who will compete to win the top accolade at a glittering ceremony to be held in London in November.

Vulnerable families to be helped by new service

A new service to help support some of Doncaster’s most vulnerable children and families has been launched by Doncaster Children’s Services Trust, supported by local partners.

Thanks to funding from the Department for Education (DfE), the new Multisystemic Therapy for Child Abuse and Neglect (MST-CAN) service will focus on providing support to the whole family, with special attention given to parents to help them overcome a range of personal challenges.

Reach for the sky

Two amazing care leavers, who are also Young Advisors and apprentices at the Trust, Amy and Britney are encouraging other care leavers to aim and ‘reach for the sky’ the theme for this year’s National Care Leavers’ Week (Wednesday 24 to Wednesday 31 October).

Pioneering teenager wins prestigious UK award

A pioneering teenager has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award at The Fostering Network's annual Fostering Excellence Awards.

Becci Coole, 20, is a care leaver with particular promise and potential, who has overcome many challenges that people her age would rarely face.

Despite these challenges, Becci took on the role of a Chief Executive Young Advisor with the Doncaster Children’s Services Trust as well as a modern apprentice position at just 16.

Young people with experiences of care are making their mark on the social care scene after seeing their ideas turned into reality.

With the core belief that the child’s voice has to be at the centre of everything being embraced by all staff, the Chief Executive of Doncaster Children’s Services Trust, Paul Moffat, recruited a team of Young Advisors in 2015 to help shape services for children and young people in a way that has never happened before.

“We feel like we have our town back. We would like to thank you and the police for the work you are doing. People are now feeling they can come into town again.”
