Welcome back to our third blog,
We have had yet another crazy month full of exciting events. We’ve helped deliver the Celebrating Success Awards, taken part in the Trusted Mentor fun day and we have said a very sad goodbye to our previous Chief Executive, Paul Moffat.
Last month we were involved in the interview panel for the new Director of Performance. This was an opportunity we thoroughly enjoyed as it allowed our voices to be heard and make a difference. We were involved in the decision of who was appointed and would like to congratulate James Thomas who was successfully appointed - we feel confident in your abilities and are looking forward to your continuous great work.
You may have already read about our ‘roaring’ successful ‘safari’ themed, Celebrating Success Awards. We had a brilliant time with 250 guests attend on the night, during which we celebrated the personal achievements of our young people. On the night we helped present the awards, and also had our Advocacy and Participation stand which we had transformed into bush tucker trails of disgustingness to see how brave our children can really be – would you dare to dip your hand into a swamp to dig out spiders?. We also took over the dance floor and Jordan taught everyone how to do the ‘cha cha slide’ dressed as a parrot– it was amazing. A big thank you to everyone who helped us on the night. We also said farewell to Paul Moffat the man behind creating the Young Advisor role here in Doncaster. We couldn’t let him go without a few surprises to say thank you, this included creating a ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ video which we premier at the Celebrating Success Awards. We thanked Paul for believing in us and enabling us to be part of something incredible. Jordan and Becci also attended Paul’s leaving fuddle, which had another great turn out. Here we presented him with a little something again to say thank you for everything - we will miss him very much and wish him the very best for the future.
We didn’t stop there. At the end of the month, we supported the Trusted Mentor team at their milestone ‘fun day’ event. Jordan got involved with helping run the Zorbing workshop alongside team EPIC, and showed good sportsmanship as he ‘let’ groups of the mentors and mentees defeat him in the ring. It was a fun filled day and was great to see so many children enjoying the activities on offer.
September was a busy month for us but we loved every minute and we have lots in store for the weeks ahead, including the welcoming of our new interim Chief Executive, Alan Adams. So stay tuned for our next update. .
Kanisha and Jordan,
The Young Advisors
