Hiya, welcome back to our blog,
This month we have been really busy with all sorts of summer fun. We have been working many events with our Advocacy and Participation team and our work has even taken us to Romania. We have lots to fill you in on so keep reading!
This month was Oakland’s Summer Fayre, over 100 people attended the event and it was a great day in the sunshine. We had a photo booth, we dressed up and we held loads of activities such as musical statues and a dance party, we had such a laugh and the children all really enjoyed it which was the main thing. We worked really hard to make sure that all the children felt involved and enjoyed the day.
The next event was the Fitness Frenzy, over 20 of our children and young people attended the activity day. We ran a variety of activites for the children including archery, trampoline, dancing, circuit games, colouring and quizzes, face mask making, and even a nail painting station. We had a great time seeing all our young people who attended on the day and enjoyed helping individuals to come out of their shells and get involved.
We have recently just returned from Romania, where we have been working with the Vis de Copil (which actually means ‘A child’s dream’) a charity set up by a Scottish couple called Kenneth and Kathryn Cloke. Vis de Copil works to help the homeless in Arad, Romania, and relies on volunteers for donations both in the form of cash and hours to help them to run their day centre. Kenneth and Kathryn use donations to provide a safe space for the locals who are less fortunate. Knowing this before we left for Romania we knew we had to do our part and managed to raise £316.40 through staff collections which we proudly donated so thank you all for your generosity. This helped provide food, clothing, school equipment whilst we were there and helped cover bills for the centre to run, seeing what our donation did for the centre and the children was something very special and was a proud moment for us all. We had a great time during our week in Romania although it was an emotional rollercoaster with lots of eye-opening moments the happier times outweighed this. We would like to thank Angie for arranging this trip and giving us the opportunity to join her, it is a memory we will keep forever.
Returning from our trip to Romania we have hit the ground running, as we carry on the work we are doing for the Celebrating Success event taking place on the 20th of September. We have been helping plan the event with our team, the fostering team, the communications team, and the Virtual School. This year with the help of the Children in Care Council we decided on a Safari theme for the event, and have worked to include all the children who attended the council on decisions including invites and decorations .We will be working on the night helping out in all areas, including our Advocacy stand where we will be doing bush tucker trails.
Later this month we will be saying goodbye to our friend Fanso who has recently received an unconditional offer to study creative music and business at the University of Westminster. We are all so sad to see him go, but we wish him the very best on his next chapter!
See you next month,
Amy and Jordan
