The Youth Offending Service (YOS), which sits within Youth Support Services, is a multi-agency partnership service with five statutory partners (police, probation, health, Youth Justice Board and DMBC).
Our Case Managers are made up of Youth Justice Officers, a Social Worker and a Seconded Probation Officer. In addition, we have a seconded Police Officer in our team and we can also access when needed a shared in-house team of specialists from Speech and Language, Careers Advice, Family Therapists, Substance Misuse, Education and Forensic Psychology. We also have a Restorative Justice Practitioner who brings together those impacted by the crime with those responsible to find a positive way forward.
We work to a trauma informed approach combined with desistance theories which mean that the relationship that the Case Manager builds with the young person is central to everything and the main focus of our work. This trusting relationship allows us to work intensely with them to explore their experiences so that we can reduce their reoffending, protect the public and help them meet their true potential.
We are accountable to the Youth Justice Board and we are inspected by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons and Probation. We are measured on our reduction in reoffending rates and on how many young people are diverted from custody. Doncaster Youth Offending Service is consistently one of the top performing YOTs for reducing reoffending.
