An EPIC Summer Staycation
Archery, zorb football and ultimate frisbee are just some of the activities children from across Doncaster will be able to enjoy this summer.
The free activities, for those aged between 8 to 17, are to be offered by Doncaster Children’s Services Trust team EPIC (Encourage Potential, Inspiring Change).
Throughout the summer holidays, the specially trained staff will be delivering sessions across the borough.
Marcus Isman-Egal, EPIC Programme Manager said: “We know for many of our children and young people the Coronavirus pandemic has meant they’ve not been able to spend much time with their friends and enjoy fun activities together. We hope our summer activities programme will provide them with the opportunity to get active, learn a new sport and make memories along the way.
“There will be plenty of traditional sports for children and young people to play from football, cricket, basketball, ultimate frisbee tennis and badminton, as well as some more unusual sports where you can pretend to be the next the Robin Hood by giving archery a go or having a go in a zorb ball. And best of all the sessions are free!
“Our team of specially trained staff have developed the sessions so they can help ensure they follow the latest government guidance around social distancing.”
Sessions will be taking place throughout the summer at:
- Jenkinson Grove Park, Armthorpe
- Asken Lake Fields, Askern
- Westfield Park, Balby
- Wharf Street Park, Bawtry
- Bentley Village Primary
- Edlington Recreational Playing Fields, Edlington
- Pitt Street Park, Mexborough
- Rossington Welfare Playing Fields, Rossington
- Church Road playing fields, Stainforth
- Wike Gate Road Park, Thorne
All sessions will last up to an hour, and booking in advance is essential. Suitable clothing and trainers will need to worn for all activities. All children and young people attending the sessions will need to bring with them a bottle of water.
The activities are part of Doncaster Council’s wider Summer Staycation programme delivered with partners across the borough to provide children with fun activities over the summer period.
