Festive talent show takes to the stage

Comedy, choreography and Car Pool Karaoke were just some of the ingredients for the annual X-Mas Factor spectacular this week.

The evening is a fantastic opportunity for our children to showcase their amazing talents – which this year even included a signed performance of This is Me from the musical The Greatest Showman and a clapping version of A Sailor Went to Sea.

The Car Pool Karaoke was performed courtesy of members of staff; as was a rendition of Baby Shark; while heads of service joined Young Advisor and sound man for the night, Fanso Maria, for a performance of the Oasis classic Soundwall.

Organised by Independent Visitor Scheme Coordinator, Sue Wakefield, the accompanying raffle and tombola raised £213. The young people decided that some of this is to be donated to the Doncaster Befriend charity, through which volunteers support elderly people with dementia.

Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend and visit children and young people in care who have little or no contact with their parents. They support the children and young people by:

  • Offering advice and support.
  • Sharing their interests and activities.
  • Being a good listener.
  • Encouraging them to reach their full potential.
  • Providing long term commitment by 'just being there'.
  • Giving help during difficult times.
  • Helping them to make their voice heard.
  • Assisting in the development of social skills.

Anyone interested in volunteering as an Independent Visitor is asked to contact Sue.Wakefield@dcstrust.co.uk
