Key workers launch donation centre for children in need

Doncaster Children’s Services Trust have developed an in-house donation centre to help transform the home lives for children, young people and families across the borough.

Staff at the Trust were delighted with the go ahead to develop an innovation project which will receive donations from key workers to help support service users.

The project launched at the start of the New Year encourages colleagues at the Trust to donate good quality items to families and young people across the Borough, helping support those who need a little extra help.

Using the voice of the child at every turn, a team of young people who are part of the Trusts Children in Care Council and Young Advisors were instrumental in the naming process of this new space. Officially known as the ‘share shed’ this space is a welcome addition to be put to good use.

The project is hoped to have significant impact and reward for families and Trust workers to know that small acts can elicit positive change. Kay Hands, Senior Business Support Officer and developer of this innovative project said:

“This space will help to provide those items that will make all the difference to a child or family and we are overjoyed to be able to develop this during a difficult time in which these items may be needed. It is fantastic to see that people from across the Trust want to help to support this project and ensure its success.”

The organisation has built the donations centre around an idea suggested via the Trust’s innovation team to improve outcomes for families in Doncaster by utilising and distributing good quality items where needed the most.

Andy Hood, Head of Service commented: “At the Trust we welcoming ideas from changes in practice to big projects such as our EPIC team and volunteer programmes. We continuously have caring colleagues bringing forward ideas that benefit the children and young people across Doncaster and I am looking forward to this project taking off and providing useful to those individuals we support.”
