Run by children

I was a snow globe, all shook up, now the snow is starting to settle.

Young people are at the centre of everything we do at the Trust

We know we can only achieve our goal of delivering ‘outstanding’ children’s services by listening to those who know our services best – our children and young people.

Here at the Trust we want the voices of children and young people to be heard at every opportunity – be it from views they share with their social worker, advocate, school teacher or from getting involved in one of our care councils.

At the Trust we also something which we feel is a little different. We have a group of young people who get involved in the Trust’s day-to-day work and advise the Chief Executive on how to run his company – our Young Advisors.

The Young Advisors aged 15 to 21, all have experiences of care. They all know the system well – what works and what doesn’t work.  As the eyes and ears of the Chief Executive they go out, on his behalf, into the Trust to see what is working and what isn’t working, and then report back to the Chief Executive and senior managers. They also represent the voices of the other 500 plus children in care and work alongside our Junior Care Council, Children in Care Council and Care Leavers Forum to ensure young people have their say in their care and the issues that matter to them.

“She is a really good social worker. She listens to me; she fights for my rights; she has a laugh with me and is honest with me. She is the best social worker ever.”
